About

Lucie Summers’ current work focuses on engaging with new materials, experimenting with ways of colouring and manipulating single use plastic with a variety of techniques. Translating abstract marks taken from interesting surfaces, Lucie produces individual ‘sequins’ from single use waste plastic which she sews by hand onto canvas. She uses her own visual language of recurring marks and brushstrokes to create highly engaging and contemporary pieces. In her latest 'Swimming Pool' series, Lucie was inspired by the movement of water in a swimming pool when the precise geometric grid of tiles is disrupted by motion - either from people in the water or from weather elements such as rain or wind. This collection of work was seen at Craftworks, a specialist craft show that took place in May 2024 at Shoreditch Town Hall as part of London Craft Week.
